Match 1

Birmingham Bears 157-6 (20 overs )

Durham Jets 143-5 (20 overs)

Birmingham Bears (2 points) beat Durham Jets (0 points) by 14 runs

Put into bat, the Bears lost the experienced Porterfield in the opening over, but a partnership of 58 from 42 deliveries between Mellor 27 and Coleman 32 recovered the early set back.

Despite then losing both of these batsmen and Webb first ball, Umeed 33 and Javid 38* aggressively maintained the momentum of the innings and helped by a substantial 24 extras, Birmingham closed on 157-6 from their twenty overs.

In reply, Brookes picked up the prize wicket of Mustard in his first over and Hannon-Dalby struck in the next removing Clark 9, before MacLeod and Hickey were dismissed by Singh with consecutive deliveries.

Well behind the asking rate, Muchall 36* from 27 deliveries and Coughlin 52* from 30, struck four sixes in their late surge to overhaul the Bear’s total, but with just too much to do, they fell 14 runs short thanks to some disciplined bowling under pressure from the home bowlers.

Match 2

Durham Jets 191-5 (20 overs)

Birmingham Bears 156-9  (20 overs)

Birmingham Bears (0 points) lost to Durham Jets (2 points) by 45 runs

In the second match Durham batted and for the second time lost Mustard for a single, but Clark 25 and Coughlin 91* added thirty runs at eight an over before ex-Bear, MacLeod 55 from 33 balls joined Coughlin to score at ten an over adding 102 for the third wicket before Durham’s innings closed on 191-5 with Coughlin’s 91* coming from just 53 deliveries.

Hannon-Dalby took 3-34 from his four overs.

Faced with a daunting task, Umeed and Coleman went cheaply, but Mellor 22 and Webb 51 from 35 balls briefly kept the Bears in touch, but the dismissal of Webb saw four wickets tumble for just fourteen runs in three overs and despite a late flurry from Gordon 25, the target proved beyond them as the Bears slipped to their first defeat of the season in the competition by 35 runs.

Harrison 3-27 and Randhawa 3-20 were the most successful Durham bowlers.
