Birmingham Bears (2 points) beat Notts Outlaws (0 points) by 26 runs

After winning the toss and fielding, Notts, playing against an experienced Bears side, captured the prized wicket of Bell for just four when he edged Hutton to ‘keeper Moores in the opening over of the innings.

Porterfield replaced Bell and proceeded to hammer the visitor’s attack, striking four sixes and eight fours in an exciting 81 from just 49 deliveries faced as he added 45 with Hain 25, for the second wicket and then 79 with Evans 26, for the third before Woakes 20 added some late impetus to leave Birmingham on 196-7 from their 20 overs. Hutton was the pick of the Notts  bowlers with 3-29 from his four overs.

Requiring virtually ten an over, Notts lost Root to Hannon-Dalby in the second over, but Moores and Taylor put on 40 for the second wicket and the with Wood, Taylor added 69 for the third before Taylor 60 holed out to Woakes off Patel, and despite a late flurry of runs from Hutton, 31* the Outlaws came up short by 26 runs after Poysden, Patel and Hannon-Dalby each took two wickets.

The second match was dominated by superb spell of bowling from Gordon 5-13 from his four overs, which included three wickets in his first spell and two more in the final over of the match to help the Bears to a ten run victory.

A totally different team took the field for the Bears in their second match, with all but Poysden of the winning Birmingham team replaced by other members of the squad.

Ambrose went early but Chopra 31 and Coleman 54 added 75 for the second wicket, while contributions from Javid 26, Lamb 24, Thomason 17 and Webb 16 helped raise the total 189-6 from the twenty overs.

Notts appeared to be heading for victory after Taylor’s 68 from 35 deliveries including six sixes but after Dal was run out for 35, Gordon’s final spell brought the Bears victory by a ten run margin.
