Big Bad Boyd

On the basis that, in cricket, you always do what the opposition least wants you do to, then you put Big Boyd on to bowl. There are few more feared fast-bowlers on the circuit than the 6ft 8in Irishman.

Boyd played for England in all formats before recently returning to the Ireland set-up of which he had been part since boyhood. He hails from a passionate cricket family, with two brothers and a sister having also played for Ireland.

Boyd gives the Bears an imposing, fast-bowling option with a skill-set that includes serious pace and bounce. He is a name that opposition players always hope to see missing from the team-sheet whenever they travel to Edgbaston. Traditionally, some club batsmen tend to back away when facing the quicks - one or two county professionals have been guilty of that over the years when facing Boyd at his best.
