A lifelong Bear, Westy progressed through all stages of the youth system at Edgbaston and was named club captain ahead of the 2009 season. He held the position for two years before resigning, having led the team to their 'great escape' in the championship. It was under his captaincy, alongside director of cricket Ashley Giles, that many of the seeds of the 2012 championship triumph were sown.
Westy's contribution comes mainly in the longer-form of the game, but he has played 38 T20s and averages a highly-respectable 22.80 with the bat. Could be a dark-horse selection for the 2017 NatWestT20Blast campaign, especially when you throw in his teasing, enigmatic off-breaks which have over the years yielded T20 wickets at just 18.20 runs apiece.
