Bears to provide champions reception to ECB Vitality Club T20 winners

In recognition of being crowned the ECB’s Vitality Club T20 champions, Walmley CC Under 15s and Knowle & Dorridge Under 13s will be special guests at Edgbaston tonight for Birmingham Bears final group game of the Vitality Blast.

"This is the first time in our history that two of our junior clubs have been crowned national T20 champions."

Walmley took the Vitality Under 15s Club T20 championship at Rugby School on Monday by defeating Alderley Edge the semi-final by 10 wickets and then Taunton St Andrews CC in final by 35 runs.

Knowle & Dorridge CC became the second Warwickshire club to take national club honours, also at Rugby School, by defeating Taunton St Andrew in the Vitality Under 13s T20 semi-final by 106 runs, then beating Eastcote CC in the final by eight wickets.

Players from both teams and their coaches will take to the field at Edgbaston, before the Bears and Rapids, for a special lap of honour.

Ed McCabe, General Manager of Warwickshire Cricket Board, said: “This is the first time in our history that two of our junior clubs have been crowned national T20 champions and our congratulations go to everyone connected with Knowle & Dorridge CC & Walmley CC.

“With Birmingham Bears set to welcome their biggest crowd of the season at tonight’s local derby with Worcestershire Rapids, there is no more fitting stage to give these young cricketers and their coaches the recognition they deserve. After all, we may see some of these players take to the field for the Bears in a few years’ time.”

Birmingham Bears take on Worcestershire Rapids at 6.30pm.
