Double-header delight for Birmingham Bears Women

Birmingham Bears Women completed a brilliant start to their  T20 campaign by thrashing Surrey by 61 runs in the second instalment of their opening-day double-header at the Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground.

After beating Worcestershire by six runs in a thriller earlier in the day, the Bears completed a much more emphatic win over Surrey.

The triumph was based on superb bowling as a unit to defend a total of 126 for four.

Birmingham’s innings was given a solid start by an opening stand of 42 between Gwenan Davies (34 from 43 balls) and Ria Fackrell. Milly Home’s 34-ball 26 then fleshed out a total which also benefited from 31 extras, including 25 wides.

The Bears’ bowling, in contrast, was excellent with just two wides sent down as Surrey were rattled all out for 65 in 16.3 overs.

Rebecca Grundy set the tone with two early wickets on her way to 3-0-10-2 while Georgia Davis ended with 4-0-15-2, Anisha Patel 4-0-20-2 and Marie Kelly 1.3-0-6-2.
