Hose trying not to look too far ahead

9 July 2018

Adam Hose admits he was delighted to score his first Vitality Blast half-century of the campaign in front of “a brilliant home crowd” at Edgbaston yesterday.

Hose’s unbeaten 51 from just 33 balls took Birmingham Bears over the line to complete an emphatic win over Yorkshire Vikings – their second eight-wicket victory over strong opposition in three games.

The 25-year-old batsman believes those results offer evidence that exciting times are ahead for the Bears – and he is thrilled to be part of them.

I’ve been feeling in pretty good form for the last couple of weeks so it was great to spend a bit of time out in the middle in front of a brilliant home crowd on a brilliant pitch.

“I’ve been feeling in pretty good form for the last couple of weeks so it was great to spend a bit of time out in the middle in front of a brilliant home crowd on a brilliant pitch,” Hose said.

“I was out of the side at the start of the year with Sam Hain batting at five but that’s the sort of thing that’s going to happen at a big club like Warwickshire. You are going to have guys missing out and I understood that.

“But I got my chance when Hainy was away with the Lions and it’s great to be involved. This team is going in a great direction with some really exciting prospects coming through.”

High on that list is opening batsman Ed Pollock who virtually settled the match yesterday with a scintillating 39 from 14 balls to take the Bears past 50 in the fourth over. In 12 T20 games, Pollock averages 30.25 at the astounding strike-rate of 191.05.

“I’m lost for words about Ed,” Hose said. “I watch him in the nets and from the sidelines and I’m his biggest fan. He is a seriously special player.

“To go out there and do what he does game in and game out and destroy opposition in the powerplay is something very special. He is going to be one to watch for higher honours in the next couple of years.

“Then you’ve got Hainy, Belly and guys like Grant Elliott and Colin de Grandhomme who have hardly had a hit yet this year so it’s an exciting time for the dressing-room and the club in general.

“We try not to look too far ahead but we’ve made a strong start to the group phase and we will try to take that form into each game as it comes, starting with the two home games next weekend.”
