The Bears have confirmed a two-year contract extension with 22-year-old batsman Ed Pollock, who has committed to the Bears across all three formats until at least the end of the 2020 domestic season.

Pollock broke through in T20 cricket last season and made a significant contribution to Birmingham Bears’ run to the final of the NatWest T20 Blast, scoring 283 runs in nine games at an average of 31.44; strike rate of 174.69.

Ed’s arrival in our T20 team created a wave of excitement.

“Ed’s arrival in our T20 team created a wave of excitement,” said Sport Director Ashley Giles. “He scored an explosive half century on debut, at home to Derbyshire Falcons, but then produced on the biggest stage with 50 in the semi-final win over Glamorgan in-front of a packed house on Finals Day.

“But whilst he’s shown his capabilities in T20, we’ve been very impressed with his commitment to playing all three formats of the game. He went out to Australia to play grade cricket over the winter and has been very focused on improving his red ball game in this early part of the season.

“He’s got a huge future ahead of him, with the potential to play for Warwickshire, Birmingham Bears and England for many years.”

Having played at Barnt Green CC since the age of five, Pollock joined the Bears on an Academy Development contract in 2016, whilst studying at Durham University. After completing his studies, he graduated to join the professional ranks full time ahead of the 2017 season.

Ed Pollock said: “It’s great to secure my future with Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the senior ranks for Birmingham Bears last year, and I’m hungry for more of these opportunities in all three forms of the game.

“The club has an amazing history and has enjoyed a huge amount of success, by winning trophies across all formats in recent years. There’s a great opportunity for this squad to push for more silverware in the coming seasons and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
