Ed Pollock took a starring role with the bat as Birmingham Bears 2nd XI won one and lost one in their double-header against Leicestershire Foxes at Barnt Green.
Pollock set up his team’s 33-run win in the second game with a ferocious 71 from 39 balls (four fours, six sixes). That laid the foundation for a late assault from Ethan Brookes (36 not out, 24 balls) and Warwick-born Harry Johnson who smashed an unbeaten 44 from just 15 balls with five sixes.
Chasing 186 for four, Leicestershire’s reply started solidly but, from 37 without loss, went into freefall against a good, collective bowling effort led by Brookes (three for 19) and Jake Lintott (two for 20). A late rally from Gareth Griffiths (45, 22 balls) kept the Foxes in the game but they reached only 153 for nine.
The Foxes had come out on top by 11 runs in the first game. They amassed 196 for five, in reply to whch the Bears made 185 for five with Pollock scoring 39 (17 balls), Michael Burgess 33 (21 balls) and Alex Mellor an unbeaten 50 (37 balls).
