Troughton impressed with Green’s introduction

Bears Head Coach Jim Troughton has praised new arrival Chris Green.

The Australian all-rounder stepped in at a time of need following Ashton Agar’s freak ankle fracture during training, flying in straight after the Toronto Nationals were eliminated from the Global T20 Canada competition.

"“He’s a great addition to the Bears as he’s shown he’s also a good fielder with a good cricket brain."

Arriving at 1pm in Heathrow, the 25-year-old raced up the motorway to make his debut against Notts last Friday where he finished with figures of two for 10.

Fast forward 48 hours and it was another strong performance.

Bowling the opening over and conceding just two runs, Green finished with figures of 4-0-19-1, which helped secure a 15-run victory.

“If we are not going to have too many options in terms of pace in the powerplay, having someone who’s got the experience of bowling in that top six is gold dust for us,” Troughton said.

“He’s a great lad and literally came from Canada to play so hopefully he’s over the jet lag by now!

“He’s a great addition to the Bears as he’s shown he’s also a good fielder with a good cricket brain.

“It’s been limited on what we’ve seen of him with the bat, but it was shrewd move from us to get him.”

Yet to make an international appearance, Green may not be a household name.

But the right-arm off-break bowler has travelled extensively, playing in the Big Bash, Pakistan Super League, T10 trophy in the UAE, Caribbean Premier League alongside the Global T20 Canada and now Vitality Blast.

That’s am impressive résumé, especially for a player of such a young age.

“People who know cricket know the quality player he is,” Troughton added.

“It’s as simple as that.

“People talk about big names and bringing people through the gates, but what does that in my view is having loyal fans and putting on good performances for them.

“If he helps us do that then I don’t care what name’s on his back

“He’s settled in brilliantly and he’s used to different timezones, countries and tournaments.

“He’s been dying to get involved with the Blast and it’s great to have him.”
