Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex joined the Bears at the end of the 2015 season after impressing for the Second XI. He had come to prominence by becoming only the seventh Staffordshire cricketer to score a double hundred in the Minor Counties Championship (208 not out against Suffolk) while also setting the county's record for dismissals by taking 11 catches in the same match.
A forceful batsman with a good temperament, he will again compete with Tim Ambrose for the wicketkeeper's spot. The Bears are fortunate to have competition of that calibre after Alex showed what he can do when his T20 chance arrived last season. His late onslaught on the Leicestershire Foxes attack at the Fischer County Ground included a candidate for shot-of-the-season - an amazing lapped six - in a match-turning stand of 43 in 20 balls. That sort of cameo partnership late in an innings can often decide games. And Alex can deliver.
